OMG LOCK! I'm still laughing at that one! But please be careful when talking about being on booze. Might give alcoholics a bad name.

Of course we are behind who is in office. Think it would make any sense not to be. It's all political like it or not. We are the biggest Law Enforcement vote pullers in the State.LOL! That ain't the only thang PBA be pulling on! And if you think that I'm going to vote for Charlie Crist because PBA is endorsing him then you must be high on brain damage!

After discovering this board and trying to catch up on all the threads I have noticed a number of references to PBA and was suprised there was no exclusive thread. So even though I have no horse in this race, here goes: I joined PBA as a new cock years ago because membership was free while you were on probation. (don't know if it is still that way) When I made probation, I did not become a dues paying member because I was not making much and with a new baby in the oven, the $ were just not there. As time rolled on and I moved around and up, I found myself where being a member of PBA was wise because of the legal assist if I goofed or was alleged to have goofed. I am no longer in a risky position so have again dropped the coverage. Over the years it was my observation that the PBA really has not done much obvious politicing to fund the STEP Plan (remember it, it got funded the year it was created and that was it) or cause the DC to find us better and cheaper health coverage. Do you know that a retiree with a family will need to give up $800 - $900 a month for coverage currently. Most recent, can anyone tell me of any instance where the PBA took the DC to task for allowing Warden's to overlook years of service, job performance and reliability to put new cocks in choice positions/shift/days off. (BTW, I'm not whinning, I have had M-F 8-5 since 1988) If PBA has, I saw no evidence of it in the Iron Triangle and more recently Region I. I submit that the problem is PBA has lost it's focus to represent the dues paying members and instead has been making it's priority to build a warm and loving relationship with the Secretary. For the PBA and DC to be such good buddies, there has got to be some deal making and I would love to know who or what is being sacrificed by PBA to achieve that goal. Granted, in the past the PBA has done an outstanding job of representing officers who have or have not done right or wrong. With turn over, low pay, outragous insurance premiums and co-pays, a lousey 5% for promotions, I think it is time for the dues payers to demand PBA start aggrssively working on the legislature and be a little less concerned about schmoozing the Secretary. What say you?

I joined over 21 years ago and it was never free. The step pay plan was killed by Gov. Chiles by his veto. I started with DOC making less than $10,000. a year. I make more than 45,000. now. As a Sergeant that's not all that bad. Yes health insurance is'nt cheap, but do you know a legislator that will commit to a loss that will kill his/her politics for ever. A bill of that cost would never make it out of the finance commity. If a member is over looked all they need to do is file. I've filed eight times and have never lost. And why are you wanting the dues paying members to do your dirty work, you step up show everyone how you, with no political backing, no money, no nothing , can get us better pay, no turn over, cheaper insurance. As for the 5% for promotions, that other 5% was money use to fund overtime, this was not a deal made with PBA, but was use by Secretary Crosby.

I have to make a comment...P.B.A. is a Union without teeth! What would give them teeth is the ability to sanction our bosses when they break the rules that we are all supposed to follow.I.e....Reprimands for proven wrong doing or maybe even get into thier pocket books if they stray from rules and regs. They are Quick to discipline us for infractions but when you do have to call in help(P.B.A.), then as soon as the front gate clicks closed they go into meetings to see what thier BUDDY'S can do about the 'TROUBLE MAKER'. P.B.A. is like a gun with one round...it's fine to wave it around but if you ever pull the trigger on it , YOU had better be prepared to deal with whats left over.....Okay, I'll give the soap box back...And yes I have been a member for 10 Yrs. Its like fire insurance...I hope I don't need it!

Complain yet again I say, why does no one ever run for office. You have the right yet you do not run. I like who is there or I would have the guts to run against them. It is our union, step up to the plate, be part of the souloution, or forever hold your tounge. I think I will call and find out when Bardi is up for reelection, so you all who are not happy with him can add your name to a ballot.

He is up this year. Come to the rally on Tue. March 14 and tell him what you think. I bet you will get lunch. And every one would like to know what changes you would make. Thank you Iizzy, it is our Union and every one should step up to the plate.
