I know what they are asking for this year.
Pay raise 4% for all bargaining unit employees, and 3% for all employees with 10 or more years. If last year when we got the 3% for those with 5 years or more, and you had only 4 years, you are included in this extra 3% raise.
For probation officers they are asking for a increase in the mileage reimbursement rate, in addition the pay raise will be asked for them also.
PBA is only as strong as the members. Too many time we complain, yet no one runs against the president or others to try and change it. The election should be soon, run against them if you are not happy.

i think its DAMN difficult when u have to work with the people u have to go after. every time they fight ya just never know who is gonna after them thats if an officer files a grievance against the administration. it can be a double edged sword.
do i like PBA???......im on the fence right now. i don't think they have all our best interests at heart as a whole...there some that honestly do tho. hard to figure it all out

Didnt this raise last year exclude anytone who left thier state job and returned (cuasing a break in service)?
I know of many people who quit to cash out and returned to work after the fact only to be excluded becuase they didnt meet the criteria of "5 consectutive".

I really am not sure , I think the break in service might disqualify them. Call PBA and find out.

PBA does not promise an attorney, only a representative.

When you leave your "Continuous Service" starts over. This is also in promotions. It is to prevent someone with 25 years from retiring, coming back and having their senority pick where they left off. If they come back they start over.

Excellent replay Lizzy. Like I said before the biggest whiners are usually not P.B.A. members. Join the union and make your voice heard if you don't like something. I can tell you on at least 6 different times when we set up a meeting out of 800 Officers in the area no more than 10 show up. Go figure and yes the dates and times are placed on the P.B.A. board at each institution. And getting back to who the Union backs, Of course we are behind who is in office. Think it would make any sense not to be. It's all political like it or not. We are the biggest Law Enforcement vote pullers in the State. Go to the ralley in Talley on the 14th and let your voice be heard. And if your not a P.B.A. member quit bitchin... We - the P.B.A. is the voice of Correctional Officers in Florida !!!

Tell me.....For example a CO with 8 years in and got the over 5 years extra raise, why would't he be mad if the union's proposal is agreed on? They are proposing a 4% across the board and 3% for those with 5 years and didn't get the extra last year. The officers last year with over 5 got 2.5%. How does that make sense? The 4%would be nice, but why not ask for the same for the over 5?

So basically you're asking me to delete perfectly legit, non-offensive opinions of other forum members, which would then have your asking us to come and show support during the Rally-In-Tally on the front page of this thread .... Let me think on that for a while and I'll get a response to you when JC is reinstated to Secretary.
BTW, the way you seem to be phrasing your comments and such I'd have to bet that you are either A) an officer with very strong PBA Loyalties OR B) a PBA employed rep ... either of which is fine.

Excellent response 77! newwave I can only say that I have used PBA twice and both times they came through for me. I also appreciate what they did for those Valdez boys. But for the last couple of years they have really turned me off with their slave-like support for Crosby and Co. When they (Jim Baiardi and Jim Wiggins) get in the newspapers talking about what a great guy Jeeemy is and how all correctional officers love and support him it really makes me want to vomit. And to add insult to injury is the fact that my dues money is going to pay these a$$ clowns salaries to say such crap! When will our so called "union" (I use that term loosely) leaders get in touch with what rank and file CO's really think about these crooks and stop being their lap dogs and stooges and start acting like a real union? When Jeeemy and AC were in power PBA should have been on the forefront in fighting these a$$holes and protecting US against their excesses instead of supporting THEM! I believe that when everything is said and done and these indictments finally come out that the PBA is gonna have alot to answer for!

I may have misunderstood his request, but for some reason I dont think thats the case.
BTW, wasnt the PBA looking to blackball AC at 1 time back in 97-98 for badmouthing the union and assisting in trying to form a competitive union for D.O.C. employees?

Yes that's correct. AC was an FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) rep. I remember that at FSP when he was Colonel there he would put pressure on new officers to join. I would ask new officers if they were PBA members and they would tell me "yes" and that they were also in FOP. When I would ask them why they would waste their money being in FOP since PBA is their bargaining agent they would tell me, "Because Col. Clark said it was a good idea to be in both".
