Discovered there are approx. 4,000 dues paying staff. Now if anyone thinks that the PBA could have done anything with those numbers, then you are greatly mistaken. The bottom line is Staff need to pay dues to the organization that represents them. This is the 3rd organization that has represented the FDC. I hear all kinds of BS EXCUSES for not belonging to the Teamsters. Please do not complain if you do not pay for the representation. FDC is the largest group of so called LE in Florida. JOIN THE TEAMSTERS!!!!!!!! lol - why pay anything to that joke of a union in Florida when they arent spending it to make sure we get extra now that the budget is good. The PBA paid for those extra raises their state officers got and the Teamsters didnt so we got left out. How many FHP and FDLE are dues paying members (totals) ? Your argument is misguided just like the Teamsters have been a joke for DC Officers. Tell the Teamsters to give you a breakdown of where they put the money and you will surely see why we arent treated as good as the Florida only officer union when the budget money is there.

I knew that the teamsters were lame whenever everybody was voting them in. If we had gotten more involved with PBA and voted the ineffective leadership out, we would be ahead of the proverbial 8 ball. I tried to tell people they were making a huge mistake that when the budget turned around they would get us something extra. After we most likely get reemed again this session maybe people will see the light finally on how useless the Teamsters are in a state like Florida.

Well maybe people will finally wisen up as it looks like we will be screwed and get less than the PBA State Officers for 2 straight years now. I told you the Teamsters aren't paying to play the game to get us extra. What a fricken joke if this happens again and e-mails won't change a thing. This was done even before the session started in reality.
From the PBA - "The House of Representatives' budget has a 5% across-the- board pay raise for all three bargaining units: FHP, State Law Enforcement Officers and FDLE Special Agents.
(a) Effective July 1, 2014, from the funds in Specific Appropriation 1981, $2,250,000 from the General Revenue Fund and $8,510,000 from trust funds are provided to fund competitive pay adjustments of five percent on each employee's June 30, 2014 base rate of pay, to unit and non-unit employees of the Law Enforcement, Florida Highway Patrol, and Special Agent bargaining units.
We still have more than a month to go, but this is a great start.
The Appropriations Committee meets today to officially present this proposal."

State employees hoping for a general pay raise will have to wait until the final days of the legislative session to find out whether they’ll get one.
Across-the-board raises for state employees currently aren’t included in House or Senate budgets, which passed out of chambers last week. Gov. Rick Scott has proposed spending $167 million on merit bonuses for about a third of the state-agency workforce; House and Senate budgets include merit-pay bonuses for employees with exemplary performance. “I think it’s an uphill battle right now because the tax cuts have taken a very high priority this session,” said Sen. Bill Montford, D-Tallahassee. “So we’ve got to overcome that. But I’m not giving up. I believe that at least in the Senate, there’s a great deal of understanding and respect for state employees. It’s just a matter of now I’ve got to do my job and convince them that we’ve got to move this issue to a higher priority.”
Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart and chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, told reporters last week that across-the-board raises were unlikely, but he left the door open to them, saying, “I think it’s something we should take another look at, and several senators have asked me to do that so I’m going to do that.”

Gov. Rick Scott has proposed spending $167 million for no more than 35 percent of the state workforce; Lawmakers have included money in their budget proposals for raises for state law-enforcement officers and some judicial employees. Across-the-board raises are not included in House and Senate budgets that passed out of chambers last week.
Les Cantrell, statewide coordinator for the Teamsters, said he has not seen support for correctional officers from the governor.
“These are people with families,” he said, adding that the average correctional officer is 42 years old. “They cannot go on making what they’re making and survive. So I don’t get the message from the governor that he is looking out for the men and women.”
Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Crews said in an email that the department’s main priority is securing more than $11 million to hire more than 230 officers to enhance safety and improve the work environment for officers.

Yep I saw a picture of a small group there but that isn't what gets you extra raises that the other state employees aren't getting - What gets that is paying for them prior to the legislative session to the legislators that control the purse strings (about 4 of them) and unfortunately I don't think Evers carries the clout needed to get this done. If we get any raise it will be like last year probably and be the same raise the other state employees get and not extra like the PBA officers appear to be getting again. You have to pay to play is the reality.

That is correct. In order to influence Tallahassee you must have large numbers. The very first one ever held that I also attended,and we had approx. 5,000 brown/white shirts out there. We got a nice pay raise two years in a row.

That would be a big plus even though we had some people (not anywhere near 5,000 but a good photo for the press) there a few years back (during the recession) and got press coverage but it didn't seem to help much and Gov Crist at least vetoed pay cuts that the legislature pushed. I really wonder what the heck the deal is with what is going on now. I think its a combination of our representative being seen as the enemy by the current power players and the dues money not being used wisely to assist more with issues like our pay.

There are other issues in the budget that may put more money into your pockets. We are still waiting to learn all of the details as the legislative leaders continue to negotiate the final budget.

Lets see 2 straight years when the budget has billions extra and the Teamsters get no more than any other state employee while PBA gets their Officers an average of over 2K extra in each of the last 2 sessions.
The Teamsters appear to screw us out of a 240 Special Comp payout while the PBA state officers get to keep their 240 earned prior to the date of the changes unlike us - all because the Teamsters clowns know nothing about negotiations with the legislature.
The sad reality is the Teamsters aren't spending the money wisely to influence who controls the budget in the legislature while the PBA is and that leaves us high and dry again with billions extra in the budget. What a frickin joke.

House and Senate budget chairmen shook hands Monday on major provisions of a $75-billion budget containing no general pay raises for state employees, but won’t increase their insurance premiums in the coming fiscal year.
