I really don't think the Teamsters will move PBA out since neither one can really accomplish anything with this economy and Florida's right to work status. Many of the Correctional staff will just go without both of them at this point in time until things maybe get better in about 5-10 years from now. It's going to be a while! I think you're right about getting anything in the future...it's a matter of seeing how much we wind up losing, not gaining at this point! I do think that the Teamsters have a better chance of minimizing the losses than the PBA does as long as they can establish themselves quick enough as the force that the politicians and the State will have to contend with in the future. I know some people will disagree with that but I feel strongly that I'm correct. I understand what this last election was saying. I do agree with the mandate that the voters sent forward....however, I feel that the Governor and the Legislature is simply trying to take shortcuts and attacking the wrong areas fiscally...the ones that are the simplest and easiest to implement cuts to, disregarding how and who those cuts affect. They can think through these cuts a little more and avoid raping FDC and other State employees. Just my opinion!

It surely was time for change! I believe that also. However, there are many, many PBA members out there that say they will not support or join Teamsters unless they get our 3% back and a raise.

It surely was time for change! You can think that all you want - the South Florida CO's just guaranteed their privatization as the teamsters have no real connections in Tally at least the PBA had Fasano a valuable ally with some real pull. The legislature is going to privatize with a seperate bill this time and now there is no chance to get the votes to stop it without Fasano. Kind of ironic the South Florida Officers signed their own death warrant basically.

This was the PBA response to the election: Hopefully the Teamsters will provide letters for PBA members to rescind the payroll deduction for membership....even if they opt out of membership in the Teamsters. Without dues paying members, the PBA will have to use the door they were shown. I think it auto ends in 2 weeks when they take over. The teamsters wont be getting 40 bucks from me to have legal defense - I think I might just give the PBA the 20 bucks a month to keep it with them but it has to be done by a bank deduction since they arent the bargaining unit anymore.

We'll see how happy everyone is with teamsters this time next year. I bet we get nowhere with them.

Fasano is pro Law Enforcement, it has nothing to do with the bargaining unit. and as far as the legislature getting the votes on a separate bill. It is not going to be easy since many of them dont want their names attached to a privatization bill when it fails. Thats the main reason they put it in the budget in the first place.

I don't think I am - they will be doing it with a bill this time and Fasano has a lot of allies besides being the head of the committee - that is why Haridopolis, Alexander and company bypassed him in the first place using provisio language. With the PBA not representing us Fasano will not be a huge ally whether he publicly states he is against it or not. That is the sad political reality. IMO there is now a 90% chance the South Florida COs will be privatized after 7/1/12 while with PBA it would have been a 50/50 proposition with Fasano actively doing everything he could to get the votes to stop it.

I dont think Fassano is going to give up on fighting Privatization just because the PBA is voted out. Regardless of who represents us, he vehemently does not want public saftey in the hands of a for profit company.

I think it was a mistake to have PBA voted out at this critical time. However since the teamsters are now our bargaining agent I will now drop PBA and start paying the teamsters. Now that evil and corrupt PBA has been vanquished, all we have to do is sit back and wait for the teamsters to wave their magic wand and the pay raises, better benefits and working conditions will be falling down upon us like manna from heaven.

I believe the monthly payment to Teamsters is going to be $30.00, which will include the legal defense. I see in many posts that many are not going to support or join Teamsters. When only less than 8,000 voted and more than half voted Teamsters, it does not show much support from the PBA members. The PBA failed to campaign, heck the Senior VP and sec. are with in 20 miles of where I am assigned and I never saw or heard a thing from them.Yes, the Teamsters are going to have a rough time, but the PBA also had problems. If you were willing to pay PBA dues, then you should not mind paying dues to the Teamsters and support the new kids on the block.

Everyone should be a dues paying member of your bargaining unit. Like I said, I didn't support the Teamsters in the election, but now that they have won I will. I think many of those who have complained about PBA over the years will also not join the Teamsters and will be bellyaching about them not doing anything as well. A union is only as good as the people who belong to it. By they way, I heard that only 52% of the ballots were mailed in. Know wonder the politicians don't take us seriously and people like Scott feel like they can cut our pay and benefits and privatize us and there will be no political repercussions.
