Let us remember Officer Pribyl who contracted a work related illness and the department still to my knowledge has not acknowledged this as a line of duty death, even though he both contracted it on the job, and fell out and later died while on duty.
RIP
Here is the ODMP submission that was rejected because the FDOC would not acknowledge the line of duty death status.
Name: Officer James J. Pribyl Agency: Florida Department of Corrections City: Tallahassee, FL End of Watch: 09/29/2006 Cause: Duty Related Illness Age: 59 Badge No: Tour: 17 Survivors: wife, 5 children, 14 grandchildren Date of Incident: 09/29/2006 Time of Incident: Duty Status: On duty Suspect Status: In custody Trial Outcome: Suspect Additional: Incident Details: Officer Pribyl was assigned to the Dept of Transportation work squad at Central Florida Reception Center, while supervising his 5 inmate worksquad, Officer Pribyl fell ill and was transported to the hospital where he later died. Officer Pribyl was so respected by his inmate worksquad that they assisted in getting Officer Pribyl to the hospital, and once there they waited by Officer Pribyl's truck until other officers arrived at the hospital to take custody of them.

I don't know how I missed this. Jim Pribyl was a good guy, and a good officer. I worked with him at least a few times, and he was always at the top of the game.
I hope the state eventually does well by his family .
