And Cool hand.. I am really close to speechless with your post.. My father was in Vietnam, as was one of his little brothers. My father was a River Rat my uncle Karl a Seal (Both navy). i have heard all kinds of stories from my father - his stories brought tears to my eyes.. I have nothing but respect for all military men and women. I appreciate what you and Mike Christian and all the other service members endured for us here who weren't there or even (like me) alive then. I am happy for everything that the US military has made possible for me as an American here in the comfort of our native soil - The United Stated of America!

There are people who take that freedom for granted though. I am a firm believer that once a student Graduates from High School they should serve their country in whatever armed forces they choose. Some may enjoy the military life and make it their career, some may not, but each person will have a greater respect for this blood bought freedom!
I'm with Tazz on that one Karlieh74, I was very alive back then, and witnessed the horrors in Vietnam myself. That was a very dark time in American history. A war that cost tens of thousands of American lives. And what did we gain? Do we see any American flags waving over there? NO!
All the Hills we took, all the ground covered with American blood was given back to the communists, and we were made to turn away and leave thousands of fellow Americans over in that sh*t hole as POW's never to be seen again.
I blame former president Johnson for leading America into that f*cked up war and I'd piss on his grave if I were standing over it right now. Too often times I compare Vietnam with Iraq, and cringe at the similarity. Vietnam was made unwinable due to politics and their rules of engagement, I see the same thing happening in Iraq.
Bush lead us into that sh*t hole, now were in it, thousands of Americans have already lost their lives. I only pray that they haven't given that last full measure in vain.

Hey,
I work 1st shift at my place and we scan out going mail.
I was thinking (Not always a good thing) but the department could make a small card to put in every envelope with the following request,
Due to recent budget cuts your loved one will be having to scale back certain comfort items. If you would like to help your love one maintain his/ her current level of comfort please feel free to donate monies to the following account;
'GOTOs no toilet paper, or paper towels'

Jester's got the right idea, let the families of the inmates support em. Last I checked, it cost the taxpayer almost 100.00 a day to house the lil darlins. Hell, if that happened, we'd probably see that little 5% payraise.. OY!!!

Didn't know where else to post this as it is an email I received.. BUT it is great, too bad the state can't run like this!!
Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!
Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.
The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who 'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.
The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.
I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the Holidays, and plant it later.
Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote. Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a "Git-R Dun" kind of Sheriff.

We should do like we did years ago. Start tha farm programs back up. Grow our own food and meat. The institutions would trade between each for what they didnt grow. What they needed after that they would buy. Was a lot cheaper then and the labor was free. Keep em busy 5 days a week. Cut back on all the bull we had to put up with. They was tired from working so they would sleep. Less hassles for the staff and cost effective. My 2 cents

fencemaster,
You've been here that long, and yet you want to submit a good ideal.
C'mon on man you know how this works;
"Good thing this Administration doesn't think farming is a good ideal we probably have to raise cattle too,"

Shux, the iron triangle is surrounded by cows on the land that used to be covered in state cows. Going back to the old ways would be MUCH more cost effective. It would certainly make the inmates too tired to be stupid.. outside of the NEU, NWU and NCU anyways....

At times , We all sit back and reflect on our lives; the things we have accomplished, the goals we have achieved, the great and exciting times of our lives, the person we have become…But then the reality of life reaches out and pulls you back into , what really is. Which forces you to look at all the things you didn’t do, the goals that fell by the way side, for one reason or another, the tasks, we did or could not accomplish, the events that were just bland and tolerable, and last but not least , we have to look at the person we really are..REALITY.. The many times we settled for just being content in a situation, because we didn’t want to rock the boat, or test the waters. It was much easier to bit the bullet and just go thru the motions, then to expand those wings and fly and make something happen, no matter what the discomfort to other peoples emotions. It is much easier to stay in a familiar situation then to venture out into the unknown.

Your RIGHT ABOUT THAT ONE. THAT DID SHOCK ME ALSO. That particular clerk had been friends with her for a while, and for that relationship to sour: something did go very wrong. But you know the old saying," things that happen in the dark, eventually come to the light". " Given enough rope and they hang theirselves....
