No State Income Tax!!!!!!!!!!! That's absurd!! An increase in the sales tax would be more cost effective. Your correct truthtracker, if State Income tax came along, it would require a whole bunch of new crooks. Sales tax is the way to go. Just afraid the Counties would raise it more. By the way what is the cap on sales tax.

No State Income Tax!!!!!!!!!!! That's absurd!! An increase in the sales tax would be more cost effective. Tell this to the 47 States that have it already. I think the sales tax is at it's cap already. Either they raise the sales tax or they come up with other options Cutting our retirement is not an option Income tax is better than poverty retirement any day.....

The politicians and citizens do not give a crap about FDC. As long as the inmates stay inside the fence it is all good to them.
It's sad to say the inmates could be us Officer's best friends if they were to _ _ _ _ _ _ _..........
But even the inmates do not give a crap. They are just happy to do a minimum of 85% and get a roof overhead and 3 squares.
The problem for us Officers, if we were to do less the State would be happy. The inmates would be happy, not get any discipline etc.
Inmates with tattoo guns where I am assigned do not get locked up and get only extra duty. Pick up cigarette butts and trash, now that is REAL punishment. Alter your ID, possibility of getting the Ninja or other diseases. We still need approval for CC's. Why should any Officer care about any type of inmate discipline. I think it is time I just come to the Institution for 8 hours and write in the Housing Log.
Maybe it is time for all of us to do the same.

Wolfie,
If it happened in August and was assigned then it is past 180 days. However they may not have listed anyone as a subject until the inmate was captured and then the 180 days could have started. Still kinda of fishy no matter what!!!!!
Of course when you are in SMS, SES status FDC can get rid of you at anytime. Constant probation.

Sound familiar ? Both NYS and NYC have income taxes plus a high sales tax and still cant pay the bills A major disturbance at Rikers Island Saturday night sent 13 correction officers and three inmates to the hospital. Authorities said several inmates refused to go to their cells for routine lock-in at 11 p.m. Prison officials said the melee may have been sparked by anger over a prisoner search earlier in the day. The jail was put on heightened alert Sunday. The injured inmates are awaiting trial and were identified as high-security prisoners. Most injuries were minor, but one officer required 20 stitches for gashes on his head and face. "Had the proper staffing numbers been in place to begin with, this incident could have been most likely avoided," said Norman Seabrook, president of the New York City Correction Officers Benevolent Association. "The department continues to shrink the necessary number of correction officers needed to maintain safety and security in the jails." Correction Department officials said the guards responded effectively. "There is no indication that staffing levels had anything to do with the origin of this incident or our ability to respond to it," said deputy commissioner Stephen Morello Read more: www.nydailynews.com/news/2010/03/28/2010-03-28_melee_at_rikers_island_jail_leaves_12_correction_officers_3_inmates_injured.html#ixzz0jVjtugh1

Someone told me that next year all State employees will be paying into your retirement fund. They said it was in the works and probably be approved by the Legislators. Anybody out there that has any info on this?

Maybe they can bilk BP for the money since nobody seems to want to visit Florida's beaches anymore. We will be short for years to come.

Getting monies from BP for salary and benefits, offset the lost revenue. Even with all of BP's payouts did you see their profit?

This is not mere speculation imo but what is likely to become reality very soon. (1) The Secretary will 100% be gone imo after letting one of the department's spokespeople release a statement talking down Scott's savings ideas (even though his ideas are laughable in reality and won't save hardly anything). (2) Not sure about the minions in central office/region - I guess that will depend if Scott's pick for Secretary has any current or former ties to DC. If there is some ties look for some changes but if not most will remain in place most likely for the first year at least. (3) There will be no favors whatsoever to call in like there was with Crist and if anything we will be on the dirt list unofficially along with the teachers union and the rest. Absolutely no vetos to help us and Scott being elected will embolden the legislature to go even farther than they have tried to in the past. (4) The legislature will put privatization back in the forefront knowing now they can easily sneek it in last minute changes to bills without fear of any reversal. (5) I don't see any actual pay cut since its been 5 years but we will get a defacto pay cut by having to pay more for medical and having to pay into a new retirement contribution most likely. Hiring may be frozen some for a year. (6) Here is the big one that will affect the locals also. High Risk will be reduced to 2.5% a year or possibly even a little lower. High Risk retirement age will be upped to 60 from 55 along with needing 30 years to retire prior to reaching 60. (7) DROP will be phased out or reduced to a 2% return rate from the current 6.5% beginning July 2011 - the legislature is still mad about that veto and has already said it will be done again this year and now there is talk of getting rid of it entirely July 2011 with even the current people being tossed out with the option of staying employed. I guess all those articles on the big payouts are getting their attention.
