Bernard Beliard pleaded guilty Tuesday in Miami federal court to aggravated identity theft and access device fraud charges. The 27-year-old Beliard faces a maximum of 12 years in prison when he is sentenced in July. Prosecutors say Beliard used his position at the South Florida Reception Center to gain access to lists containing personal information for 805 inmates from October until January. Beliard met four times with a confidential FBI informant who said he would buy the information for use in committing tax fraud. Authorities say Beliard accepted $9,600 for the lists. He is no longer employed at the prison.

A state corrections officer at the Wakulla Correctional Institution was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of both synthetic narcotics and heroin with the intent to sell as well as charges of bribery.
Rocky L. Butler, 35 of Crawfordville, was arrested by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office. Synthetic narcotics, $325 in cash and heroin with an estimated street value of $4,000 was seized during the investigation.
Sheriff Charlie Creel said the arrest came after a month-long investigation of contraband at the state prison that included the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, U.S. Postal Service, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General.
Butler was arrested at his home and is being held in the Wakulla County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
