Way to go teamsters! You did a great job on our new contract!

Where are all the teamsters supporters at? Isn't there anyone willing to tell me I'm wrong and the contract they negotiated for us is the best thing since sliced bread?

Well after looking over the newsletter's list of the contract "adjustments" I believe that the STATE got exactly what they wanted from the Teamsters. 12 hour shifts use it or loose it special comp closures and no pay increase. Everything else listed is fluff. And I was crazy talking when I said the Teamsters were not going to have any stroke at the collective bargaining table. At least that is what the smiters were telling me. I guess it won't be long and I will be calling 10-7.

But weren't the teamsters supporters passing around a contract from another state and telling everyone that we would have a contract like that, not a "weak" PBA contract?

It came from someone high up in the organization, so it was sanctioned.

How can anyone seriously think that we were going to get a good contract when we only have approx 15-18% of officers belonging to their bargaining unit. That coupled with the fact that we have the most anti-union and anti-state employee Governor I have ever seen with my 24 years with the state. Hello, its not rocket science. Weak Union Membership+ Teabag anti state employee Governor=POS contract. Since you like predictions so much, here's one for you that you don't need a crystal ball for. Its going to be that way for the next 2 years until we get more union membership and a Democrat Governor . I would be willing to bet that those officers who are doing the most bitching are part of the 85-82% who are not even members of their bargaining unit, yet they are pissed that we got a weak contract. We got what we got because we are not united. You think it would have been different under PBA? We would have still been raped.

The agreement of "use it or lose it" on Special Comp. is just another big hit financially on the backs of Correctional Staff. The State never liked paying that out before and now they found their way out of paying it. That's sad to say the least!

We got what we got because we are not united. You think it would have been different under PBA? We would have still been raped. No homer it would have been as bad or maybe even worse under the PBA since they had exactly the same problem with membership. And Jimmie was worried about keeping his acorn on the pile more than our acorns. Weaker and weaker contracts have been going on for a long time. That is why the change happened. My point is and was that "new blood" was not going to perform anymore miracles than a false prophet. But, so many got their panties in a bunch because I was warning them. Hell just look at my karma rating. At least 70 people have been mad enough to smite me but only a handful debate me. And you are one who debates quite well I might add. So there is no way that COs are going to get off their wallets to make the collective bargaining units stronger. They might have to give up a six pack of beer or a carton of smokes. They wouldn't for PBA and they won't for the Teamsters. The politicians would have raped state employees no matter what. Now their buds in Tally are just fine and will continue to be. Would anyone like to explain to me why for example Gretyl Plessinger makes 80K per year? She deserves equivalent pay to an AW. I call BS on that one. No one needs that much to read a statement to the press. Unless that is what it takes to sleep at night when lying your face off. Anybody been around Capitol Circle lately and seen the 5 acres of parking at one of the office buildings across from the Department of Agriculture? I have and it is full to the point where they almost need a tram to get to the front door. I doubt many of those cars are citizens conducting bussiness.

TALLAHASSEE — Three days after a trial judge ruled the Legislature’s 2011 effort to make public employees pay part of their pension costs was unconstitutional, lawmakers passed another pension bill reducing government contributions to more than 100,000 public employees. On the last day of the 2012 Legislature, the House and Senate endorsed House Bill 5005, which cut government pension contribution rates for state workers, law enforcement officers, county workers, school employees and university workers who are part of a 401(k)-type retirement plan. The bill is awaiting the approval of Gov. Rick Scott, who has made cutting state pension costs one of his top priorities. Scott, who has until Saturday to act on the bill, has not taken a position on the latest measure. The cuts are dramatic in some cases. For police officers, sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement members who fall into the “special risk” class, the government contribution to their retirement will drop from the current 18.3 percent of their salaries to 12.3 percent. Workers in the “regular” class would see the government contribution cut from 6.25 percent to 3.55 percent. University and state college employees would have their employers’ contribution to their retirement cut from 7.43 percent to 5.15 percent. “I had concerns that it would hurt the rank and file and sure enough it did,” said Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, who was one of two senators who voted against the bill. www.gainesville.com/article/20120415/ARTICLES/120419736

Yep the teamsters did great this session. Over a 1,000 CO positions lost. Officers now driving near a hundred miles to keep a job. Special comp raped as of July and afterwards. No raise. Of all the things their truck drivers etc pushed in the parking lots none of them became reality. There is a sucker born everyday they say.

But weren't the teamsters supporters passing around a contract from another state and telling everyone that we would have a contract like that, not a "weak" PBA contract? We had some truck drivers ( I suspect anyway- no clue of certain officer questions) in our parking lot promising all kinds of raises and things if we just voted the teamsters in. The teamsters also filed a frivelous lawsuit imo just to sucker some naive officers into voting for them.

The PBA has a lot more clout and political connections in this state. The teamsters are outsiders with no connections.

Lets just have no bargaining unit at all then, bet the state gives us our every whim. I'll say it slower for the super dim witted among you: It.....is...not...the...bargaining...units...fault. It's YOUR fault. It's everyone like you. The PBA didn't stand a chance, and neither do the Teamsters, as long as good officers stand on the sidelines and do nothing to help. No bargaining unit in the world can get a single thing done without membership. Join or die. A bargaining units power is numbers. People like you are killing that. In typical teamster thug fashion, you call names and attack people who don`t agree with you. The teamsters want top dollar dues with a promise that they would get big pay raises for everyone....which didn't happen It is like what came first the chicken or the egg. They should lower the dues...since we haven't had in a raise in so long and when they come thru with all the promises they made , then slowly raise the dues. Maybe then the membership would increase and there would be strength in numbers But as I have said in a number of past post..we will get a raise when every other state employee gets one and the teamster and the other state employee unions will have nothing to do with it It also wont matter what party the governor comes from...when the state has the money we will get a raise and not until then Stop the name CALLING

Someone is a "teamster thug" because he calls an idiot a moron? Ive never met a real "teamsters thug" but in the movies I thought they used fists, guns and dynamite to get thier point across. Not calling someone a moron on an Internet website. Get your panties out of a wad. Don't think it makes a difference what party the governor comes from? You need to read a newspaper and watch the news every now then.

How much clout do they have with Rick Scott??? About as much as the Teamsters.
Write this down and read it next time our contract comes up for re-negotiation: Weak Union Membership+ Teabaggin Anti-State Employee Governor= POS Contract
