I absolutely love this. We should forget everything we know about our current situations. We will have the staff to take vacations, get training, search more, and no one will complain about being stuck in a dorm or on post because we will have enough staff for relief. Go D.O.C. !!!!!!

Rumor has it, Work Release and Road Prisons to go private. Majors will be a thing of the past. Sago Palms is going to 12 hour shifts. Can not get info on how the 84 hours would work. There is to be no overtime. Light Years wants us to get a raise. Probably so we can pay into retirement. This info allegedly was from the man himself, while in South Florida.

Don't forget they plan on axing the Colonels too. 12 Hour shifts and 84 hours in 2 weeks That's a plus because not as much driving to an from work........... Fewer days actually at work too

12 hour shifts seems to be gaining momentum. I am hearing many saying that we will be going to them within 90 days. It will take a few weeks to completely re-work the schedules and bring the admin shifts on line. I can't wait to see the look on many faces when they get changed to work from 6 in the evening until 6 in the morning. Wow!

Some local institutions have 12hr shifts for the line staff, and still have 8 hr Admin. 6A to 6P, 6P to 6A and 8A to 5P. Admin and special assignments may not change at all. They are all about saving money right now, and all the state's studies indicate that 12hr shifts at the CURRENT staffing levels will cost money. The only way 12 hr shifts will save the state money is by cutting positions as they become vacant or not allowing them to be filled. As far as the 84 hr deal, every security person can be re-classified as exempt like us evil devil serving white shirts and get 4 hrs leave on the books. I still think they will want to have 3 12 hr shifts, short for 4, loaded for 4, short again, loaded again. The only time we'll have help is during feeding and showers. I was on the last "focus group" for the 12 hr shifts and that's what they were wanting to do then.

With the turn over rate, even here in the triangle it will not take too long to get the level down to critical staffing levels in 12 hour shifts.
Heck not all dorms are open and we still are robbing from other units.
Have even worked under critical for 5 hours in the shift. We will work longer hours and have more days off. The new critical levels will be just like the other under 8 hours. WE WILL NOT HAVE UNLIMITED STAFF !!!!!!!!!!
Probably end up with more admin. and special assignments, so they will not have to work 6PM to 6AM. Heaven forbid!!!!!!
I did look up Federal law concerning fire and police. In a 28 day period one can work up to 171 hours as straight time. Firemen 212 hours.

My issue is that we are not considered "sworn law enforcement" when it comes to certain things, but once it is convenient all of the sudden we are.

The gobernet does as it wishes. But eventually the people get their belly full and do something about it. Just look around the world.

Something people forget. When you go to 12 hour shifts, you can cut your staff. Just wonderful, they'll get to reduce staffing while a few suckers say Weekends off, wow!!!!! Don't kid yourself. This new administration isn't looking for out for our welfare, they are looking at how much they can reduce us parasites for King Richard!

I'm sure Jefferson isn't the only camp short on staff for 12 hr shifts.

I'm sure Jefferson isn't the only camp short on staff for 12 hr shifts. I would believe they are all in the same boat. The positions are open due to the South Florida issue of privatization and closings. I wonder how long this will last? 6 months, 12months or longer, it will really get old real fast working at critical ALL the time. Only way to get day off is to call in sick. Out of 20 positions, we have 4 vacancies and 3 FMLA.
