Did you guys hear about the Officer at UCI who was promoted, sent to FSP then a week later was sent back to UCI to the same post he came from because of a clerical error? Seems the officer applied for promotion, was informed he had been promoted before he interviewed and was told they must have gone back to the old promotion system by white shirts when he told them he had not interviewed. When the officer got back to the institution he was told the mistake was his. He knew better. He knew it could not possibly be him. Then was told he had caused the institution embarrassment. This officer I know. He is the one everyone questions when they are not sure about something. He works every post (male or female)at UCI without question. The logical choice I think.

It is fair in my opinion... Although he was promoted, he should have known,, if he has been in DOC awhile.. that there must have been a mistake since he never even attended an interview... If he or she,, is the correct person for the position,.. then he should take the interview and see how he fairs...

It really surprises me that since Daddy Crosby took over DOC that noone has complained about Daddy Crosby promoting all his "boys". The same boys who were demoted for stealing employee club money and misuse of inmate labor to name a couple of things those in power did.

STOP being an idiot!! If Crosby wants his "BOYS" there then let him be. If any of us were in his position, we would want it the same way. Use some common sense.

Nothing is fair about the promotional practices with DOC. However, if Crosby wants his people put in certain positions, then that is just the way it is going to be. He is large and in charge - for the next few years atleast. Remember, change is coming and those who are the fair haired boys and girls will get what is coming to them in the end.

Back to the subject at hand -
you actually say it's the C.O's fault?
Wow. Must be nice to have a warden who is completely clueless about his staff and the going-ons of the institution that he can put the pin on the CO's uniform in front of a crew, and not realize there's a mistake.
Must be even nicer to work for a prison that condones such an act.

I bet there wasnt mistakes like that back when it was the "buddy system"
I recently went for an interview. I didnt have my hopes up too high for making it since the majority of the people there had me beat in time. A guy from my institution was told he had it, at the end of his interview. Ofcourse he called out to our inst. and told everyone he got his stripes.
I called a couple days later to get the break down of my points and was told all the points hadnt been tallied yet and that I should give them another day. I did call back and get them the next morning. Later that I day I also heard that they rescinded that guys promotion. Seems there was a mistake on his app. I've heard conflicting stories, one says he was already pinned and wearing his stripes (at our inst, not the one he was promoted at) when they discovered the mistake. The other story is that he was about to be pinned when they were called and told abt the mistake.
Anywho... he prolly is pissed and a lil embarrassed. Nobody has heard yet if they are gonna do another interview or just take the next person in line. Aggravating for sure.

I think the quality of sergeants and lieutenants has really declined in the last couple of years as a result of the small increase in salary when promoted (generally about 5%). I see excellent officers that have good days off on shift or are on Admin that will not put in for fear of loosing their good days off. To themit is not worth loosing their good days off or shift, for the little money recieved. It used to be a straight 10% raise, but not anymore. Now, we get the lower grade officers putting in and getting promoted. These will be your future supervisors. Scary isn't it. The FDC needs to reinstate the 10% raise, and raise the quality of its future superviosrs. Has anyone else noticed this trend?

hey i did a little checking on the uci screw up. it appears that the guy that was pinned had the same name as the guy who should have been pinned, and the warden had just got to uci so he did not know the officer. the interviews were done from the pool and not at uci. and the colonel was not there that day they did the pinning or he would have known there was a misstake as he knew both officers well. so you can say it was a little on both sides part. and was only a mistake and not a bunch of stupid people.

To reply #13, If you did some checking, you didn't do a good job. I know for a fact, because I work with this CO that was pinned "accidently", that he was called at home at 7:30AM by the Capt and told to be at the Warden's office by 8AM, that he was being promoted. The day before he was told he was being promoted by another Lt. I was standing there when he told three white shirts that morning, just before they pinned him, that he did not interview and that the pinning was a mistake, he told them he just put his paperwork in that week, there was no way. The white shirts said, "well you must deserve the promotion". Even after the pinning, the officer was willing to laugh it off as a mistake because he knew it was a mistake and he was still told he deserved it after 10 years of loyal and dedicated service. This is why the CO went to Another Institution for a week thinking he told them, so maybe it can't be a mistake. this officer can and does work anywhere they need him. But, instead of letting it go as a mistake, he got called into the warden's office and called " an embarrassment to the Institution" because he allowed the mistake and made the ADM. look stupid. that was uncalled for. This CO didn't deserve that. Mistake or not, who ever's fault it was. (by the way, the mistake was made because an asst. warden, later admiited the service center called him and it was his mistake because they told him "so-and-so" was promoted, calling him by his last name, assuming the one by mistake not the one who interviewed. no one but the officer who got "accidently" pinned even questioned it. How quickly they throw you to the wind.
