This goes along with the thread on bargaining unit change as well. We need to start NOW, asking for insurance benefits for retirees. Most people I see retire either have to work another job, or come back to DC because it’s all they have know for so many years, just so they can have insurance coverage. An even higher number probably just do without insurance at all! I know the state willl never pay in full or even start out by paying the same amount as they do for the currently employed, BUT we need to start somewhere! Who do we start with?

Lwbfl, We should be asking who? re: retirement benefits. Does anyone out there believe the PBA will work on something for someone that does not pay dues anymore?

If you read my post, the last line is asking who to contact. I didn't say the PBA, I said the idea goes along with the change in the bargaining unit thread. Whether that be a change in the current unit's agreement, or a different unit all together. If you have any ideas on who to contact let us know and we can all work together on this.

Perhaps I should rename this thread the Owl thread, as we are both asking who, who, who?

Barn owl, hoot owl, great horned owl or burrowing owl? Probably the latter. I have discovered that the Officers working only worry about NOW!! They never seem to put much thought on after the retirement, soooo busy just trying to make the 25 an out. When PBA sends out the top 10 wanted it never is on top, maybe not at all. Our retirement is great, but when you pay approximately $1,000.00 per month for insurance for you and family, deductibles, routine maintenance pills and your not old enough for medicare, you are not going to receive much in the pocket. Then add, you can not take the premiums off your taxes. The State could do much better on the deal for insurance and they should, but where would one start to lobby for such an increase in retirement benefits? Since we have discovered the Legislature is not FDC Officer friendly, maybe the PBA could come up with something like many other unions, but it is not an union, sooooooo now what?

As a quick note to all when I retired in Sept 2004 Health AVMED was appr 785 for a family now its up to 1200+ per month States pays 125 HIS We Retirees need a little help with the price We gave all those years of SERVICE yet WE have to pay FULL Price for Health Care I have went back to WORK just to pay for the Insurance. Its a sad when Officer that gave all the years can not get a break on the price of Insurance buta NEWCOCK just the street as part of the BENTFIT Package will only pay small amount or if they are married the STATE will pick up all the tab for Health Insurance

You surely are not the only one in that boat. I had to return due to insurance not for me a Vet., but for the family. The biggest problem is the PBA sends out the top ten list. Most of the employees are looking at now, and vote for things they may receive now. But then again someone said that most FDC staff stay for less than 10 years. When I 1st started the majority of staff, were retired military and all they wanted was 10 years, then they would almost be ready for SS etc. I guess most believe none of the FED benefits will be around when they are of age to retire. Heck when OBAMA fixes it all the working class will be screwed anyway.

I am not sure about this but I think Department of Management Services could possibly be the "who" to contact about the retirement issues.

OK everyone, lets bombard the Department of Management Services with this issue! Spread the word, make some waves as the squeaky wheel gets oiled! I for one plan to retire at a young age and will need my insurance for a long time (I hope). Kinda funny. Went to DMS website, contact us and they did not give an email address. I guess FDC is more friendly since we deal with inmates family, GO FIGURE.

There are no more retirement benefits unless you are one of the few dinosaurs left. Even then you won't get paid for sick, annual, or special comp. Sad I'm glad many of us got out when we did!
