12 hour shifts, have every other weekend (3 days) off. Heck yea you can plan way ahead and everyone will at least get some different days off. When can I start? By the way where is this coming from?

12 hour shifts would all but eliminate admin shifts. More personnel available would be really helpful!

DO YOU WANT 12 HOUR SHIFTS YES OR NO It depends on how they set them up. There are ways that would be good for line staff, and others not so much. The previous suggestions still had 3 shifts, but they overlapped at the busy times (feeding, showers, etc.) In reality this meant you'd be short as heck during "slower" times and have enough help to run things as they should be only during meals and shower hours. I'd vote no to this set up. If it's 12hr shifts with rotating weekends and one week off each month, I'd vote yes. It really depends on how they set up the schedule.

Other States have made 12 hour shifts work. They work 5 on 2 off (Friday thru Tuesday with Wed/Thurs OFF) the 1st week and 2 on 5 off (Tuesday and Wednesday with Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues OFF )the 2nd week. This works and ROCKS!

Obviously the people in favor of this are not already on midnight shift or they are the ones who "volunteer" for doubles from evening shift every night. Tell me how much you love to work 8 and then just stay for the fun of it for another 4.

2x's, You are correct, I am not on midnights. However, after seeing the lazy pieces of crud with seniority having the best days/shifts off, just because they have held a spot is a crying shame. Let everyone enjoy some good days off. Also just think when a person who abuses their leave, it will diminish with the quickness. I do see FDC working their butts off to appease ALL the baby's momma's. Maybe Light Years will have some gonads on that issue.

I wonder how someone could handle 12 hours on perimeter or a tower? Many facilities in an eight hour shift, split it up 4 and 4. The perimeter inspection form was actually made to accommodate that issue. Just modify the form, make it for 4 hour stints in a perimeter or tower post. At my duty station it is an eight hour post. Which should not be allowed. NO INMATE CONTACT!!!! If they do need to come inside for some reason, they are NOT WORTH A CRAP!!!! Just a friggin body to have to stay out of your way so you can get the job done.

but are all the special projects people going to have to do 12 hours or are they going to get around that to if they are assigned to the 12 hours shift they should work it and get off their butts and work the compound. or this is all for nothing yes I am for giving everyone a chance for weekends i would like one without having to beg for it but I work a dorm but I figure it is not going to change for the special people they are going to get over and what about admin shift can't they work there special job and MAYBE come to the dorms and work since most of them have not worked a dorm ever

i know we will get screwed over like we always do. but you know what the special people always fall out of favor someday and guess what they come back to us i have seen it happen so many times most just go to nights so they don't have to face the people they have pissed off it is funny but it is what it is.
bring it on and when it blows up we will be there to see it happen.
