Does it seem fair that they change the amount of the raise for promotion from 5% to 7.5%, without raising those of us that got ripped on the 5% rate. New promoted Sgt.'s are making more then Sgt's with 5 years in grade. I can't understand why they canceled our 10% raise in the first place, but now to slap you in the face with staff getting 7.5%. I don't want to get my 2.5% from the time i got promoted, but at least give me my 2.5% from the time they change the rate to 7.5%. I wonder what we gotta do to get our pay fixed, my bonus is not gonna help with the $3.00 a gallon price of gasoline, $5 dollars plus a gallon for milk, sorry for the rant, but it aggravating at times with DC, mostly only the times you are at work.

I cannot see why they went from 10% down to 5% in the first place, thanks PBA for all that hard fighting just to get back to where we were 6 years ago.
And if they do get 10% it's probably not retroactive, so maybe if it goes through I'll take the voluntary demotion, then re-apply for promotion.

As it was explained to me when I was promoted, it was a step. The conversation with personnel went something like this. After receiving my congratulatory letter of promotion that said my pay was now $##,###, I thought wait a minute that's not 10% and called personnel. Me: "I'm calling about my recent promotion. The letter you've sent me states my pay is now $##,###. That's not 10%, according to my calculator its about 5%." Personnel: "That's the correct amount. You no longer get 10% for promotion." Me: "What do we get now?" Personnel: "A step." Me: "A step?" Personnel: "Yes, a step. Remember the step pay plan that was voted in?" Me: "Yeah, I remember it. I remember they didn't bother to fund it." Personnel: "That's correct but we use it for promotions anyway. So in your case you've went from the highest rate of pay for a CO to the lowest base pay for a SGT., which works out to about 5%. Anything else I can help you with today? Me: (Feeling completely violated) Uhm, wow. No thanks. Thank you for the time. Little did I know at the time that this was merely the foreplay. The big screwing came at tax time when I found that the 5% was just enough to bump my household into the next bracket. The step was really a -10%. People First email: "There is a Lieutenants position open at....." Me: "No thanks, I can't afford another promotion."

The reason for the bump by 2.5 is that no one was putting in for promotion (at least around our place). why loose the shift you are on and the good days off (assuming you have any time) to get to change your entire life around? yes when it went to 7.5 that was enough for me to get back into the game. So I did. Besides how else was I going to get a raise this year?

I thought that the new 10% promotion increase applies to Lt. and above??? Am I mistaken?? Yes you are One Lt got a 15% raise recently and another only got 4% it. Both off the same interviews too. One, the minority got a 15% Then again it was a rigged promotion. Promised by minorites to a minority. the second promotion they wanted to re advertise and promised it to someone but PBA stepped in and stopped a second rigged promotion. the Non minority that did get a promotion only got 4% raise and is filing on it too. another case of favoritism in DOC

Promotional raises are still 5% as the contract states, the reason some people get larger than 5% raises is that the 5% has to be above the minimum pay for that position. So if you are making more than 5% of the minimum pay for that position, you only get 5% as the contract requires. If you are making less than the minimum for that position you will get a larger raise. Additionally in accordance with the contract we have, the Secretary of the Department can direct an add an additional 5% to a promotional raise.

Very interesting, the man that got the 15% raise was making more and had more time in the department than the second man who only got the 4% raise. The Department does not follow any rules, it just does as it wants and gives big raises to those who contractually do not deserve them and then gives a small raise to the people who contractually do deserve them. All in all DOC is upside down and back wards right now......

It's sad that now you have to get promoted to get a raise! Thanks PBA! We can't forget to thank the economic turn down too and the greedy people that started the crash dive we are still in. PBA does not have a chance against that kind of Buzz Saw No pay raise in 4 years and 15% loss of our spending power in that time too.
