Does anyone know what happened to Lt. J. C. Thomas, Lt. Wyman Harris, Lt. Don Newmans, Sgt. Harry Tison ? They were all at FSP when I was there in the 70's.

When I grow up, I want to retire, just like they got to. Man what a tribute. Anybody work the stuff that long, deserves to be able to lay it down an enjoy life, don't ya think?

Glad to hear that. He was a hell of a trooper when we worked together at FSP in the 70's. He and I left many a boot print on many a behind back then. That big rascal had a choke hold that would have em' beggin' in no time at all. I had to laugh one time when a con tried to say " I give up " while Wyman had him in the hold. Sounded more like "urrr...ahhhh...eeee".

Harry Tison became a Captain at FSP and was sent to the work camp ( the O-Unit back when you was there), got railroaded over some bogus racial remarks that he supposedly said and was busted down to Sgt. and sent to UCI. He then grieved the state for his demotion and got his rank back plus back pay when he proved that the allegations were untrue. He then retired shortly after this about 7-8 years ago, I believe. I worked for him at FSP when he was a LT and a Capt and I had a lot of respect for him and enjoyed working for him because he was fair and looked out for his officers and would try to help you out if he could. He was a good man and I thought it was shameful the way the state tried to shaft him . I can remember that all the officers at FSP were real happy to hear that he got his demotion overturned and got back pay from those SOB's.

Harry was one of the best officers that the FDOC has ever had. He was the outside sargeant when I was there. I worked the "gun squad" and he was my boss. We had 4 shotgunners and a walking boss and the inmates came out of the main unit and worked the ditches on state property. Only had 1 run in the 3 or 4 years that I worked outside. He only made it about 40 yards. After we pumped a little lead in that one idiot we had a new found respect after that from the rest of the squad. We found out later that he was elected as the "guinea pig" to see how good a shot the gunners were. One thing that he found out for sure was that we don't fire warning shots. If I remember correctly they had to dig about twenty 00 pellets out of his butt. With those remington 870's we had 8 shots with the plugs removed and me and another gunner each got off 3 rounds before he hit the dirt. Sargeant Tison calmly walked over to me and borrowed my radio and called in " Control room this is gun squad...send the bus....we got one shot". Then he handed me back the radio and gave me that "good shootin" grin.

He got his rank and pay back, and then retired as a major in early 02 I believe, but for a short time, before his retirement and after he got hgis rank back, UCI had two majors. Steve Richardson was the official major, while Harry held it down there on the row.

You are right Hawk, Harry was a major when that stuff happend and not a Capt. My mistake. As you get older your memory is the 2nd thing that goes.

Anybody remember Capt. Johnny Gaskins? I saw him tonight in Starke and he is doing well and looking good. Him and his wife just got back from a trip to Hawaii. He told me that it has been 16 years since he retired! How time flies. I always liked him and he was both a good man and a fine Captain . Just thought a few of the old FSP old timers who were around back in those days would like to know that he's still alive and well.
